Economic networks, transportation networks, urban networks, network methods, interlocking world city network model
Zachary P. Neal is Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University (USA). He joined the GaWC research network in the late 2000s, while pursuing a PhD in Sociology. His interdisciplinary research focuses on developing methods to more accurately measure and analyse city networks, with a particular emphasis on economic and transportation networks. He has explored the ‘interlocking world city network model’ in detail, often with a critical eye, with the goal of identifying and overcoming its limitations.
He is the author of four books on cities, including The Connected City (2013, Routledge), which established an agenda for urban network research at both the global and local scales. He is also the author of over 100 peer reviewed articles that have appeared in journals from a range of disciplines, including geography, psychology, sociology, health, and network science. He currently serves as Editor of Global Networks, where he enjoys receiving submissions that examine world cities and networks.
