Travel behaviour and modelling, infrastructure, location analysis, urban mobility and logistics

Frank Witlox obtained his PhD in Urban Planning from Eindhoven University of Technology. Currently, he serves as Head of Department of Ghent University’s Department of Geography and teaches transport geography and spatial analysis-related courses.  Beyond Ghent, he serves as a Visiting Research Professor at the University of Tartu in Estonia where he oversees the international outreach of the Mobility Lab.

Frank’s primary research focuses on travel behaviour analysis and modelling, as well as locational analysis of public and private corporations. He has extensively published on these topics, as has been recognised by Clarivate as a Highly Cited Researcher in the Social Sciences in 2021 and 2023. Additionally, he is the current editor-in-chief of European Transport Research Review and a founding co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Urban Mobility. Frank holds two honorary doctorates from Tartu and Odessa. He has published widely on transport-related dimensions of world cities and co-edited the International Handbook of Globalization and World Cities (2012, with Ben Derudder, Michael Hoyler and Peter J. Taylor, Edward Elgar).
