Setting global research agendas
GaWC has been setting global urban research agendas for over 25 years, including through many pioneering publications that have shaped the field. GaWC researchers are among the highest cited in global urban studies and continue to lead developments at the forefront of urban and regional economic research.
Shaping urban and regional planning
GaWC research into inter-city relations has influenced urban and regional planning agendas around the world. We have worked with many cities including Abu Dhabi, Chengdu, Dublin, Guangzhou, London, Milan and Shanghai. Our work is cited widely in urban and regional policy documents, such as the metropolitan plans for Sydney 2036 and Shanghai 2035.
Informing global media
GaWC research is being reported regularly in major media outlets around the world, including Australian Financial Review, China Daily, Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Globe and Mail, Le Figaro, Die Zeit, and many more. Biennial publication of our The World According to GaWC city classification attracts significant global media attention.
Working with international organisations
GaWC researchers are working with a wide range of international organisations, including the World Bank Group, and many research organisations around the world.
Inspiring school curricula
Some of the outcomes of our research feature in A-level and GCSE textbooks in schools in the United Kingdom, inspiring the next generation of urban researchers.
