The GaWC website was first developed in the late 1990s as an intellectual and empirical hub for research on global and world cities. This proved an enormously successful venture: GaWC is now one of the most recognised and influential research networks in urban studies globally. The website grew considerably over time as a major resource for research, teaching and urban policy-making around the world. In its last manifestation before the 2024 relaunch, the site contained over 470 working papers by 250 contributors, as well as a wide range of other resources.

Recognising the key role of GaWC and its website in establishing groundbreaking global urban research over more than two decades, we provide an archived version of the previous GaWC website here.
